形态描述：灌木，高1-2米；茎略四棱形或圆柱形，无槽或稀具浅槽，幼嫩时密被平展的腺毛。叶片薄坚纸质或近膜质，卵形或椭圆形，顶端渐尖，基部浅心形至圆形或钝，长11-16.5(-19)厘米，宽5-7.5(-9)厘米，边缘具不整齐的小齿，齿尖具刚毛，通常具缘毛，5-7基出脉，两面被细小的糠秕状鳞片，叶面基出脉、侧脉平整，背面基出脉、侧脉明显，隆起，幼时基出脉、侧脉密被星状毛；叶柄长1.5-5.5(-6)厘米，幼时被星状毛，以后密被腺毛。由聚伞花序组成的圆锥花序，顶生，长12-25厘米，宽2.5-6厘米，基部具叶状总苞2枚，花序轴、花梗及花萼均密被糠批状星状毛；苞片和小苞片小，钻形，长约1毫米，早落；花萼长约6毫米，狭坛形，具钝四棱，具纵脉8条，其中4条不明显，裂片极小，几不明显，顶端具突起的小尖头；花瓣红色或粉红色，卵形，长约6毫米，于右上角突出1小片，顶端具突起小尖头，无毛；雄蕊长者与短者药隔均隆起，基部均伸长成短距；子房纺锤形，下位，无毛。蒴果椭圆形，顶端具胎座轴，长约5.5毫米，顶孔开裂；宿存萼较果长，坛形，近顶端缢缩。花期约10月，果期约3月。
